The rattling of the sewing machines returns to the most famous workshop on television, but this time, some very special students will step on the pedal. Mónica Cruz, Pilar Rubio, Edu Soto, Eduardo Casanova, María Esteve, La Terre, Óscar Higares, Rosa López, Laura Sánchez, Carmen Farala, Canco Rodríguez and Silvia Superstar will put aside their successful careers to spend hours among bobbins, pins, thimbles and remnants, as apprentices in the first edition of “Maestros de la Costura Celebrity” on La 1.

They have all known the most glamorous and brilliant side of the world of fashion, but now, in the sewing talent show produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia, they will learn the wider and more real meaning of the word, as well as becoming aware of the important artisan work of this trade.

Presentation with fashion catwalk
The Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid hosted the launch of the programme, together with a catwalk with some of the designs of the famous apprentices.

Maestros de la costura’ is coming on strong,” said Ana María Bordas, director of Originals at RTVE. “It is an outstanding format for RTVE, because it combines public service, which is to support Spanish fashion, with emotion and fun.

RTVE’s Director of Communication and Participation, María Eizaguirre, recalled the aim already set out on Tuesday by the director of TVE, Sergio Calderón, of ‘building a grid for a very plural audience, which is backing all our content’. ‘This makes real the desire to turn RTVE into the driving force of the audiovisual industry and for production companies, such as Shine Iberia, to see how their content ends up being a success’.

From Shine Iberia, its CEO, Macarena Rey, thanked RTVE for this commitment and stressed that “the fact that there are 12 brave people who get in front of a sewing machine is brutal. All my respect and gratitude to these 12 people who are going to surprise you a lot”. ‘The judges are fascinated’.

Lorenzo Caprile, María Escoté and Alejandro G. Palomo have corroborated these words: ‘They have left us open-mouthed’. In addition, for the first time the judges of “Maestros de la Costura Celebrity” will have to evaluate the work of friends, acquaintances and colleagues, but that will not make them any less demanding. They will have to inspire them, express their potential and instil in them the importance of responsible and sustainable fashion.

For her part, presenter Raquel Sánchez Silva will try to show viewers not only the more unknown side of the apprentices, such as their passion for sewing and their relationship with fashion, but also what they are really like away from the red carpet. “The casting has been a gift, because of their commitment to Spanish fashion and everything they have worked for. Everyone asked me if they sew: yes, they sew”.

The winner of this first edition will win 50,000 euros to donate to the NGO of their choice and the programme’s crystal mannequin.

Edurne, Naty Abascal, Nieves Álvarez and Victorio & Lucchino, among the guests
The apprentices will be surrounded by friends, celebrities and big names from the world of fashion. The singer Edurne, the actresses Rossy de Palma, Bibiana Fernández and Adriana Ugarte, the model and celebrity Naty Abascal, the model and presenter Nieves Álvarez, the singer Marta Sánchez, the badminton player Carolina Marín, the vedette 2.0 Lorena Castell, the communicator Inés Hernand and the influencers Marina Rivers, Marta Díaz, Vyperr and RoRo will be some of the guests of the edition.
